Chrysalis interns start On-the-Job Training

Overstrand Municipality is one of the municipalities where Chrysalis Academy graduates are placed for a 12-month internship programme within various government departments.

The programme forms part of a long-standing collaboration between the Western Cape Government’s Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Overstrand Municipality, and Chrysalis Academy, which has been in place since 2015. The initiative is aimed at developing young leaders, both male and female, and supporting youth crime prevention through skills development and work readiness training.

Applicants must have at least a Grade 9 qualification up to Grade 12, must have no criminal record, and must be residents of the Western Cape. Applicants may be subject to random substance testing during the programme.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Alderman Archie Klaas, and the MMC for Municipal Public Safety, Councillor Andrew Komani, recently bid farewell to the 2025 cohort of interns. The outgoing interns received Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of their successful completion of the learnership programme. They gained valuable experience across various departments, including Back Office Administration, Traffic Services, Fire Services, Electrical Services, Law Enforcement, Security, CCTV operations, and other administrative functions.

At the same time, the Municipality warmly welcomed the 2026 cohort of interns. These young men recently completed a demanding three-month Youth Learnership Programme and will now be placed within Overstrand Municipality for 12 months of practical workplace experience.
